Merry Christmas everyone! In this season of giving, I hope all of you reading this, however few (lol), would do some good. If you haven't already know about the "battle" between AVA and animal activists on the Punggol stray dogs, it is basically about the AVA stepping up culling of stray dogs in the Punggol area after a recent case of a jogger who was attacked by some strays there.
Before you make any judgment on the strays, do think about this: To the stray dogs, that particular area is their home. Therefore, to them, they have every right to protect their home from any "intruders" which happened to be the passing jogger whom unfortunately is afraid of dogs. Anyone afraid of dogs would naturally become frightened and may instinctively react by staring at the dogs, shouting/screaming or running away. All these actions would trigger the dogs' natural response which is to defend themselves and their home.
In my opinion, the AVA's decision to step up culling is highly unnecessary and uncalled for. When humans attack another human, those humans are sent for trial, sentenced to jail, a fine or maybe even allowed to be released on bail.
Why, then, are we treating the dogs like they are murderers when they did not kill anyone at all? Why are we sentencing them to death without even giving them a chance like we do for humans? The dogs were acting on their natural instincts which was to protect their territory. I do not believe that we should treat dogs, or any other animals, lower than us.
That aside, animal activists have so far rescued a few stray dogs from the site and they are all looking for good homes. I would definitely adopt them if I could but this ain't my house and my parents refuse. So all I can do is help spread the word about them. In this season of giving, all I ask is for your support. Every single person counts. If you can, give a Punggol dog a home. If you're helpless like me, help spread the word. You never know whose ears your words will reach.
